There were several short term causes of World War I. First of all, the
assassination of Archduke Ferdinand was one thing that set off WWI. He
died in June of 1914. He was heir to an empire. Next, Germany had
declared war on Russia as well as France. War also started because of
autocracies, the head person of parliament would make all the decisions,
which was not always fair to the people who were under the rule.
